Rental Dispute Centre, the judicial arm of Dubai Land Department, said, it settled 8,713 rental disputes worth Dh2.53 billion (US$690.19 million) in the first half of 2021.

Rental Dispute Centre (RDC) also said that it succeeded in resolving 61,555 primary rental cases in six years, from 2015 to the end of 2020, representing just 2 percent of the 4,280,292 documented rental contracts (Ejari) registered with Dubai Land Department (DLD) during the same period, which it says, “contributes to enhancing the community’s confidence in the laws and legislative system in the emirate”.

DLD is the government land registry in the emirate of Dubai – which hosts the most advanced and matured real estate market in the Arab World. With an average processing fee of Dh220 for each Ejari contract, the total fee collected by Dubai Government entities exceeds Dh941.66 million (US$256.58 million) in the last six years, as per the statistics.

Judge Abdulqader Mousa, Director of RDC, said: “During H1 2021, the department managed to settle 8,713 disputes amicably, with a value of Dh2.533 billion in an average of seven days, allowing RDC to achieve its vision of being the international reference point for the resolution of rental disputes, especially in the speedy settlement of rental disputes and reducing their time period.”

In 2019, the number of active rent contracts registered at DLD reached 469,310, which represents a 5 percent growth compared to 2018.
